Chicken Basurita
Chicken Basurita – discarded like trash, in the middle of the storm in October 2024. The day “Dana” came. A storm that swept everything away. Floods, destruction, chaos. Valencia was underwater. People lost their homes. People lost their lives. And on that very day… she was abandoned. A small chicken. Left behind with the trash. In the rain. In the dirt. Without shelter. Without any chance. While others were fighting for survival, someone decided that this life was no longer worth anything.
When I found Basurita, she was in a state that’s hard to describe. Her body was marked. Feathers missing, skin raw. Soaked through, weak, completely exhausted. And yet… she didn’t give up.
I took her with me. I warmed her up, cared for her, and nursed her back to strength. Fresh food, rest, safety – and above all, time. Time to heal. Time to regain strength. Time to understand that she is not “trash”.
Today, Basurita lives in safety. Here, in Pfötchenhausen. She never has to stand in the rain again. Never again has to fight to be seen. Never again has to be thrown away. She is not trash. She never was. She is a living being. A survivor. And a silent proof of how cruel people can be – and how much a little heart can still endure.
